Support before, during, and after pregnancy
Your mental health care should support your reproductive goals, not exist separately from them. Whether you are considering pregnancy, actively trying to conceive, already pregnant, preparing for birth, navigating postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, or coping with pregnancy loss, Northwind provides individualized psychiatric care centered on your goals, preferences, and overall wellbeing.
Pregnancy Goals & Preconception Planning
Thinking about pregnancy? You do not need to wait until you are pregnant to see us. We are happy to review your current psychiatric symptoms and medications, discuss pregnancy goals, consider prior mental health or pregnancy experiences, and develop a plan designed to support psychiatric stability before and during pregnancy.
Pregnancy
Evaluation and treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, OCD, ADHD, sleep concerns, mood symptoms, and other psychiatric needs during pregnancy. Treatment decisions consider your symptoms, preferences, pregnancy goals, psychiatric history, and the risks and benefits of both medication treatment and untreated psychiatric illness.
Birth & Postpartum Planning
We can help you prepare for the mental health aspects of delivery and the postpartum period before your baby arrives. Planning may include medication strategy around delivery, protecting sleep, identifying early warning signs, strengthening your support system, considering feeding goals, and creating a plan for rapid follow-up if symptoms emerge after birth.
Postpartum & Breastfeeding
Ongoing support after delivery for depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, trauma symptoms, sleep disruption, mood changes, medication questions, breastfeeding considerations, and adjustment to parenthood. Your treatment plan can evolve as your recovery, feeding decisions, sleep, and needs change.
Pregnancy Loss
Compassionate psychiatric and supportive care following miscarriage, stillbirth, termination for medical reasons, or other pregnancy loss. We can help address grief, anxiety, depression, trauma symptoms, sleep disruption, and medication needs while respecting each patient's individual experience.
Collaboration With Your Pregnancy Care Team
Perinatal mental health care works best when your clinicians can communicate. With your permission, we are happy to collaborate with your OB/GYN, maternal-fetal medicine specialist, midwife, primary care clinician, therapist, lactation professional, or other members of your care team so that psychiatric treatment fits into your broader pregnancy, birth, and postpartum plan.
Planning a pregnancy?
You do not need to wait until you are pregnant to see us. Northwind is happy to meet before conception to review medications, discuss your pregnancy goals, consider previous pregnancy or postpartum experiences, and develop a thoughtful plan for pregnancy, delivery, and the postpartum period.
Medication and non-medication care
There is no single treatment plan that is right for every pregnancy. We use shared decision-making to help you understand your options and make informed choices that reflect your psychiatric history, current symptoms, pregnancy and feeding goals, personal preferences, and overall risk-benefit picture.
- Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis
- Preconception and pregnancy medication review
- Medication risk-benefit counseling during pregnancy
- Breastfeeding and postpartum medication considerations
- Medication initiation, continuation, adjustment, or taper planning when appropriate
- Birth and postpartum mental health planning
- Postpartum relapse-prevention and early-intervention planning
- Supportive psychotherapy and behavioral strategies
- Sleep, stress-management, movement, and lifestyle support
- Screening and ongoing symptom monitoring
- Collaboration with your broader care team when desired
Your goals are part of the treatment plan
We welcome conversations about becoming pregnant, staying on or coming off medication, preparing for delivery, breastfeeding or formula-feeding goals, protecting sleep after birth, prior postpartum experiences, and concerns about recurrence of psychiatric symptoms.
Our goal is to help you make informed decisions while supporting both your mental health and the pregnancy and postpartum experience that matters to you.
